Two decades of port investments with EU support

20 investments for Poland's 20th anniversary in the European Union. The Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority summarizes two decades of EU membership.

It was an intense time for the Szczecin-Świnoujście ports. During it, the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority SA implemented and is implementing ambitious investment plans, boldly reaching for EU funds from the Cohesion Fund under the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment and CEF Connecting Europe.

The list of investments includes 20 projects worth almost PLN three billion. Their effects include: the construction of an external port in Świnoujście and the construction of two new ship berths at the LNG terminal, one for importing liquefied gas and the other enabling both the import and export of this fuel. In turn, at the ferry terminal in Świnoujście, a new ferry service stand was created, marked No. 1, while ferry stands No. 5 and 6 were combined into one as a result of reconstruction and adapted to handle intermodal cargo. The road and railway systems in both ports were modernized. In Szczecin, near the Ewa grain elevator, the Zbożowe quay was modernized and a new Niemieckie quay was built from scratch. In turn, in Ostrów Grabowski, the Finnish, Norwegian and Duńskie quays were built, and in the Kashubian Basin we have a new Dąbrowieckie quay. The port waters are being adapted to the new depth of the Świnoujście-Szczecin fairway, i.e. 12.5 meters. Later this year, the first terminal in the country to service offshore wind farms will be built in the port of Świnoujście; it is worth adding that the Port Authority plans to expand it. Work related to the construction of a multimodal rail transshipment hub in the port of Szczecin will also begin soon.

The aim of completed and ongoing as well as planned investments is to improve the competitiveness of our ports, their sustainable development and to increase the quality and quantity of cargo handled in ports. (edited by ZMPSiŚ SA)
