The past year in our ports was marked by changes, constructive continuation and looking towards a greener future.
Investments in the Off-shore Wind sector, the Deepwater Container Terminal in Świnoujście, the expansion and modernization of the quays in Szczecin, the second berth in the LNG terminal and EU grants for further projects, as well as the daily, consistently dynamic work of our ports. This is our year in a nutshell.
We have stopped the downward trend
We are ending 2024 with a solid result of transshipments of 32,305.8 million tons. This is 8.5% less than a year ago, but we perceive the result positively.
- We look at this result with optimism, because in the second half of last year we managed to overcome the downward trend that has been ongoing since the end of 2022 - says Jarosław Siergiej, President of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority S.A.
The last quarter of 2022, the whole of 2023 and the first half of 2024 were characterized by declines in transshipments resulting from the limitation and then termination of the large-scale coal import campaign from almost the entire world, in connection with the embargo on supplies of this raw material from Russia. In 2023, the transit of Ukrainian goods to Polish seaports also ceased.
Ultimately, the downward trends were stopped in the middle of last year, to significantly improve results.
In 2025, we have high hopes for fuel transshipments (including LNG) - 5 LNG deliveries have already been announced for the first weeks of January alone (4 from the USA and 1 from Qatar). The growth in the transshipment of ferry general cargo is also encouraging, as after several years of declines, in 2024 we saw an increase in ro-ro transport (i.e. cargo transported in vehicles), which is the most important commodity group with almost a 50% share in transshipment.
